Since You Have Been SANCTIFIED You Should Be SATISFIED

Praise the Lord, Grace & Peace great people of our “Great God”…JESUS!

Growing up as a child in our home, my parents always emphasized to us as children that we were special, not to be internalized that we were to be condescending to others; but as it pertained to purpose in life! I began to think about the word “Sanctification” hence I looked it up and it is defined generically as “the state of proper functioning.” “To sanctify someone or something is to set that person or thing apart for the use intended by its designer.” The Greek word translated “sanctification” (hagiasmos) means “holiness.” To sanctify, therefore, means “to make holy” unto God! Based on this reference, I somewhat have an inference that many who have been called to be sanctified due to their conversion in Christ Jesus, walk as if they are not satisfied. Hence for the this Golden Nugget I would like to provoke the thought “Since You Have Been SANCTIFIED You Should Be SATISFIED” My premise scriptures to provoke further gospel provocation are as follows:

Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exo 19:14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

Joh 17:18-19 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

1Co 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

2Ti 2:20-21 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

In much of my studies I have come to the conclusion that many who hold claim to understand, the doctrine of sanctification, have misapprehended the absoluteness of truth, concerning a Saints perfect  justification before God. For example, over my 39 years of walking and learning more about our Lord Jesus Christ, I have often heard people speak of sanctification as a progressive work, as it pertains to our old nature being gradually made better; until our corrupt Adamic nature has become completely sanctified.

But the scriptures are entirely against such dogma! The word of God never teaches us that the Holy Spirit’s objective is to improve gradually or otherwise, our Adamic nature, the nature which we inherited by natural birth, because of the fall of the First Adam! The Apostle Paul expressly declares in 1 Cor. 2:14 that “The natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. This scripture is clear and conclusive on this premise. If “the natural man” can neither “receive” nor “know” “the things of the Spirit of God,” then how can that “natural man” be sanctified by the Holy Ghost? Hence we cannot appropriate “the sanctification of our nature” because it opposes the direct teaching of 1 Cor. 2:14. Hence I have adduced that an utterly ruined thing can never be sanctified. One can do what they will with it, and it still will be ruined; Hence  the Holy Spirit did not come down to sanctify a ruin Flesh, but to lead the ruined Flesh to Jesus Christ. So when we attempt to sanctify the flesh, we are given evidence in Gal. 5:17 that “The flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other.”  Hence I provoke, can the Holy Spirit carrying on a warfare with that which He is gradually improving and sanctifying? If so, would the conflict cease as soon as the process of improvement has reached its climax? And if so does the Saints conflict ever cease so long as they are in their natural body?

Hence I object to these dogmas and any erroneous theology concerning progressive sanctification of our Adamic nature. Through the Grace of Jesus Christ and power of the Holy Spirit we are able to subdue it more thoroughly; through the perpetual process of mortification! Because if we do not mortify this FLESH, it remains ready to spring up and show us how vile it really is! Please know that “The Flesh” in a Saint of God is in no better than “The Flesh” in a person who has not been converted in Christ. If we forget this, we will lose insight of the overall objective in what it takes to walk Holy in Christ Jesus! If we do not perpetually keep in mind that that self has to be judged, we will learn by various bitter experiences, that our Adamic nature still wants to reign! GOLDEN NUGGET!

It is only when we look in the light of God’s Holy Word, that we perceive that our heart can be so deceitful and desperately wicked when we walked in the moral of darkness, in our unconverted state. That’s why I praise the Lord for our “divine nature,” by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, to render the effects He desires. My brothers and sisters many are still seeking a ground of peace in a sanctified nature, instead of the perfect sacrifice provided by Christ Jesus, i.e., a progressive work of holiness, instead of in a finished work of the atonement afforded us. Many deem it presumptuous to believe that their sins are not forgiven until their evil nature is completely sanctified, and we know that end will never be reached, until this vile body has been changed. This is why some are still miserable, because they are seeking for “a foundation” totally different from that which Jesus said He has laid, and, therefore, they have no certainty whatsoever. The only thing that ever seems to give them a ray of comfort is some successful effort in the struggle for personal sanctity.

My brothers and sisters the souls that have really got hold of Christ desires holiness; and hence want to grow into His likeness, which will always render true, practical sanctification.

Those of us who frequently speak of sanctification, mean well, although we do not articulate according to the teaching of Holy scripture. Let me call your attention to some passages of scripture. In 1 Corinthians 1:30, “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.”  It is here we learn that Christ “is made to usall these four things. God has given us, in Christ, a precious casket, and when we open that casket with the key of faith, the first gem that glitters in our view is “wisdom;” the second is “righteousness;” the third is “sanctification;” and the fourth is “redemption.” We have all of them in Christ. As we obtain one we obtain all. We are able to obtain all with the key of FAITH. But my question to you is, why does the apostle name redemption last? I believe it is  because he takes in account the final deliverance of the body of the believer from under the power of mortality, when the voice of the archangel and the trump of God shall either raise it from the grave, and those that are alive change it in the air, in the moment and twinkling of an eye. This will not be done progressively, but instantly; “in the twinkling of an eye.” Our Adamic nature is in one state now, and “in a moment” it will be in another. In the brief point of time expressed by the rapid movement of the eyelash, will the body pass from corruption to incorruption; from dishonor to glory; from weakness to power. What a change! It will be immediate, complete, eternal, and divine..Glory! GOLDEN NUGGET!

Saints what are we to learn from the fact that “Sanctification” has been placed in the group with “redemption” by the Apostle Paul?  We learn that what redemption will be to the body, that sanctification is now to the soul. In other words, sanctification is used here as an immediate, complete, and eternal divine work. There is no doubt, that when the body experiences this glorious change, there will be heights and depths of glory throughout eternity!

What an immense relief it would be to thousands of earnest, anxious, struggling individuals to get a proper hold on Christ, as it pertains to their sanctification.  How many are vainly endeavoring to work out a sanctification for themselves! They have come to Christ for righteousness after many fruitless efforts to get a righteousness of their own; but they are seeking after sanctification in a different way altogether. They have gotten “righteousness without works,” but they imagine that they must get sanctification with works. They have gotten righteousness by faith, but they imagine they must get sanctification by effort. They do not see that we get sanctification in precisely the same way as we get righteousness, inasmuch as Christ “is made to us” the one as well as the other. Do we get Christ by effort? No; it is by faith. Rom. 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. It is; “to him that works not.” This validate that we all must be in Christ to obtain wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.

Notice, in Acts 26:18, the converted Gentiles are spoken of as “receiving forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith.” Here, faith is the instrument by which we are said to be sanctified, because it connects us with Christ. The very moment a sinner receives salvation from our the Lord Jesus Christ, they become linked to Him. They are made one with Him, complete in Him, accepted in Him. This is true sanctification and justification. It is not a process. It is not a gradual work. It is not progressive. The word is very explicit. It says, “them which are sanctified by faith which is in me.” It does not say, “which shall be sanctified, or “which are being sanctified.” If such were the doctrine it would have been so stated.

There is no doubt, that the converted grows in the knowledge of this sanctification, in the sense of its power and value, its practical influence and results, and the experience and enjoyment from it. As “the truth” pours its divine light upon our soul, we receive more illuminations of what is involved in being “set apart” for Christ; in the midst of this wicked and evil world. As more truth is reveal to us through the Holy Spirit we clearly understand that sanctification is not merely a progressive work, wrought in us by the Holy Spirit, but it is the result of us being linked to Christ, by faith, whereby we become partakers of all that He is. Ecc. 3:14Whatsoever God does, it shall be forever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it.” Whether He justifies or sanctifies, “it shall be forever.” The stamp of eternity is fixed upon every work of God’s hand: “nothing can be put to it,” and, blessed be His name, “nothing can be taken from it.

Saints let’s look at another passage of scripture found in 1 Thessalonians 5:23; the apostle prays for the saints whom he addresses, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Here, the word is applied to a sanctification in degrees. The Thessalonians had, along with all believers, a perfect sanctification in Christ; but as to the practical enjoyment and display of this, it was only accomplished in part, and the apostle prays that they would be wholly sanctified.

My brothers and sisters in this passage, it is worthy to note, that nothing is said of “the flesh.” Our fallen, corrupt nature is always treated as a hopelessly ruined thing. It has been weighed in the balance, and found wanting. It has been measured by a divine ruler and found short. It has been tried by a perfect plummet and proved crooked. God has set it aside. Its “end has come before Him.” He has condemned it and put it to death. It is crucified, dead, and buried. To adduce proofs would demand volumes of evidence. Are we, then, to imagine for a moment, that the Holy Spirit came down from heaven for the purpose of exhuming a condemned, crucified, and buried nature, so that He might sanctify it? The more closely we study the Law, the Prophets, the Psalms, and the entire New Testament, the more closely we shall see that the flesh is not capable of being mended. The Holy Spirit does not sanctify it, but He does enable the child of God to mortify it. (Recognizing it Dead) This is why we are told to “put off the old man.” This precept would have never been delivered to us, if the objective of the Holy Spirit was to sanctify “the old man.”

I pray and trust that no one will accuse me of coercing a desire to lower the standard of holiness, or to weaken one’s soul earnest and aspirations to grow in the purity that is found in Christ Jesus! God forbid! If there is one thing we desire above another is to promote in ourselves and others, and that is, to strive to walk in the beauty of Holiness as we grow in Him daily.

I am sure that most intelligent Saints of God will all agree as to the fundamental truth of “Righteousness without works.” Therefore we fully admit that we cannot, by any efforts of our own, work out a righteousness for ourselves before God. Hence it should be clearly seen precisely that righteousness and sanctification be put upon the same ground in the word of God. We can no more work for our sanctification than we can work for our righteousness. We may try it, but we shall, sooner or later, find out that it is utterly vain. We may vow and resolve; we may labor and struggle; we may cherish the fond hope of doing better tomorrow than we have done today; but, in the end, we must be constrained to see, and feel, and own, that when it comes to  sanctification, we are as completely “without strength” as we have already proved ourselves to be in the matter of our own righteousness.

Hence perfect sanctification is as fully included in the word “salvation” as is “wisdom, righteousness, or redemption.” We did not get Christ by effort, but by faith; and when we laid hold on Christ, we received all that is in Christ. Hence, therefore, we have only to look to Jesus by faith, for the subjugation of our lusts, passions, tempers, habits, circumstances, and influences. We must look to Jesus for all of it.(I know I do!) Salvation is a golden chain which stretches from everlasting to everlasting, and every link of that chain is Christ. It is all Christ from the first to last.

In 1 Cor. 6:11 Paul draws a picture of fallen humanity, and he plainly tells the Corinthian saints that they had been just like those who did not know Jesus Christ.. “such were some of you.” These are not flattering word…”Such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

What a striking contrast between the two sides of the apostle’s “but!” On the one side, we have all the moral degradation of man’s condition; and, on the other side, we have all the absolute perfectness of the believer’s standing before God because of Christ. This truly is a marvelous contrast; and let us remember according to Paul’s gospel, that the soul passes in the twinkling of an eye, from one side to the other of this “but.” “Such were some of you: but ye are,” now, something quite different. The moment in which they received Paul’s gospel, and walked in it, they were “washed, sanctified, and justified.” and were fit for heaven.

It is of the utmost importance to apprehend, with clearness, the distinction between a truth and the practical application and result of a truth. This distinction is forever maintained in the word of God. “Ye are sanctified.” Here is the absolute truth as to the believer, as viewed in Christ, and as the fruit of an eternally perfect work. Eph. 5:25-26 “Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify it.”  1Thess. 5:23 “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly.” Here we have the practical application of the truth to the believer, and its results in the believer. GOLDEN NUGGET!

But how is this application made, and this result reached?  By the Holy Spirit, through the written Word of God. Hence we read in John 17 “Sanctify them through thy truth.” And again we read in 2 Thess. 2:13 “God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation, through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.” And also in 1 Peter 1:2 “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit.” My brother and sisters the Holy Spirit carries on the believer’s practical sanctification on the ground of Christ’s accomplished work; and the mode in which He does so is by revealing to our soul the truth as it is in Christ Jesus. He unfolds the truth as to our perfect standing before God in Christ, and by energizing the New Man in us; He enables us to put away everything incompatible with our perfect standing in Christ Jesus. A person who is “washed, sanctified, and justified,” ought not to indulge in any unholy temper, lust, or passion. They should strive to “cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit.”

Again I emphasize that this is practical sanctification. It does not give credence to any attempt to improve our old nature. It is in vain to make any effort to reconstruct anything that is in irretrievable ruin. It is simply by the Holy Spirit, and by the powerful application of “the truth,” that enables the New Man to live, and move, and have His being in the sphere in which He belongs. It is only in this sphere, will we encounter progress. That’s right progress in our spiritual ability to subdue and keep under all that pertains to our flesh, progress to walk in the power of separation from this present evil around us! We can only enjoy this progress graciously as we submit to the Holy Spirit, and use the Word of God to unfold precious truth to our soul. I reiterate that the work of the Holy Spirit in regards to our practical sanctification day by day is founded upon the fact that the Saints of God according to Heb 10:10 “are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once.”.

John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth; thy word is truth.” My brothers and sisters here we see sanctification presented, not merely as something absolutely and eternally true of us in Christ, but also something that is wrought in us, daily and hourly, by the work of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God.

Hence sanctification is obviously only a progressive thing on the basis that the Holy Spirit carries on the subjective work in the child of God, based on the objective truth, of our eternal completeness in Christ Jesus. It is because of this I believe and understand what the Hebrew writer meant when he wrote in Heb. 12:14 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” That basically holiness, which is an attribute of sanctification is presented as an objective to be “followed after,” to be attained by earnest pursuit, which every Saint of God should long to cultivate! GOLDEN NUGGET!

My brothers and sisters may we strive to embrace the following concerning Sanctification… in John 17:17 the sanctifying power of the Truth; in Acts 26:18 the sanctifying power of Faith; in 1 Cor. 1:30, 1 Cor. 6:11 the sanctifying power of the Name of Jesus; in 1 Pet. 1:2 the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit; and in Jude 1 the sanctifying grace of the Father. If we continue to strive in knowing these things I can assure you that “Since You Have Been SANCTIFIED You Should Be SATISFIED” Have a “Jesus Day”
