Praise the Lord, Grace & Peace great people of our “GREAT GOD”…JESUS.
As I reflect upon my life since I have been in Jesus Christ, I have experienced and seen so many things from without and within the Church of the living God. I appreciate the Grace that has been afforded me, hence I will never take it for granted. Yes, there has been times that I have wanted to throw my hands up when I looked at situation and circumstances through the natural eye. But I remained cognizant of what Asaph stated in Psa 73:1-3,17-18 “Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 17-18 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.”
I have grown to realize beyond a shadow of a doubt that I have been kept by someone greater than me! Hence for this Golden Nugget I would like to provoke the thought “Kept by the Power of God through Faith;” To provoke further gospel provocation I will use the following scriptures to establish my premise.
1Pe 1:1-5 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
My brothers and sisters the third, fourth and fifth verses are emphasized; “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which … hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible … reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.” I personally have to emphasize that I have truly been; “Kept by the Power of God through Faith.” All Glory is to God!
Here we have two factual truths by which a Saint of God is kept unto salvation. The first is, “kept by the power of God;” and the second is, “kept through faith.” I want us to look at this from two perspectives; from God’s perspective and His almighty power that He executes to us as being our Keeper every moment of the day; and from the finite human perspective showing that we having nothing to do but walk in faith and let God do His keeping work. My brothers and sisters it imperative that we know and believe we are begotten to an inheritance that is kept in Heaven for us; and we are kept here on earth by the power of God to receive this inheritance!
You know it would be very foolish for a father to take great effort to have an inheritance for his children and to keep it from them, he is going to do everything he can to sustain and keep them, so that they can receive what he has stored up for them to inherit.. Just think of a man spending his whole life making every sacrifice to amass great wealth, then you ask him why does he sacrifice himself so, and his answer is: “I want to leave my children a large inheritance, but I must also make sure I educate my children, so that they will not take my sacrifices for granted and run wild in the world, following the paths of sin leading to ignorance and foolishness! Likewise; My God is keeping us for that inheritance with His authority, power, and agape love.
Now, let’s emphasize the work God does to keep us for the inheritance. I have already said that we have two factual truths: one the divine side – we are kept by the power of God; the other, the finite human side – we are kept through faith as we walk.
Let’s look at the divine side first: Saints are kept by the power of God, so what does this entail? First of all, let me establish that this keeping is all-inclusive.
What is kept? We are kept. How much of us? Our whole being! Does God keep one part of you and not another? No. Some people have the ideology that this is a sort of vague general keeping, and that God will keep them in such a way that when they die they will go to Heaven. But they do not apply that word kept to everything concerning the spiritual and natural man. For this is what God wants to do.
There are some people who think God will keep them in spiritual things, but not in natural things. The latter one, many say, lies outside of His concerns. Now if I recollect God sends us into the world to work, but He does not say: “I must now leave you to go and earn your own money, and to get your livelihood for yourself. That would be contrary to scripture as stated in Act 17:28 “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”
He knows you are not able to keep yourself. But God says: “My child, there is no work you are to do, and no business in which you are engaged, and not a cent which you are to spend, as being your Father, that I will not engage in.” God not only cares for the spiritual, but for our natural needs also. It is a fact that many of Gods people are putting in eight to ten hours a day on average to fund their need, amid all the other temptations and distractions these efforts entail; but God takes care of us in these efforts. Hence; I reiterate that my Gods keeping power encompasses all.
There are other Saints who think: “It is only in the times of my trial that God keeps me, but in times of prosperity I do not need His keeping power; then I forget Him and let Him go.” Others, again, think the very opposite. They think: “In time of prosperity, when things are smooth and quiet, I am able to cling to God, but when heavy trials come, somehow or another my will rebels, and God does not keep me then.”
My brothers and sisters as a pastor I can affirm that my God can keep us in prosperity as well as in adversity, in the sunshine as well as in the dark cloudy moments, our God is ready and able to keep you and I in all situations and in every season of our lives! There also others of the mindset who think that “God will keep me from doing abominable wickedness, but there are small sins I cannot expect God to keep me from, and conquer them.”
When you hear of some brother or sister who have been tempted and gone astray or fallen into sin, i.e. fornication, drunkenness, adultery, murder, and an delusional mindset, etc. you need to thank God and remember “I might have done the same as that brother or sister, but thank God for his Grace and the DESIRE to walk in His keeping power! For did not James state: Jas 1:12-15, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” GOLDEN NUGGET!
Paul states, be grateful because you have walked in and know the Keeping Power of God… Gal 6:1 “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
Some people think defeated, and truly believe that they can never get to the place that every word that proceeds out of their mouth should give God Glory. But this is what God requires of us, and it is the benchmark God has set before us. God is willing to set a watch at the door of our mouth, and if God will do that, you know He can refrain our tongue and our lips from bringing a reproach on His glory. He will; and that is what God is going to do for all of us that trust Him. God’s keeping is all-inclusive, and let everyone of us who strive to live a holy lifestyle think out what this entails, i.e. weaknesses, all the shortcomings, and sins; and say deliberately: “Is there any sin that my God cannot keep me from?” And our soul will have to answer: “NO; God can keep me from every sin.”
Its takes the Holy Spirit and the desire to walk in Him to execute this keeping POWER, this truth, from experience is burned deep into my soul; I want to worship God until my whole heart is filled with the thought of His omnipotence. My God is mighty, and my Almighty God offers Himself to do the work in my heart, the work of keeping me; hence I want stay linked with Omnipotence by staying linked to the Omnipotent One, to the living God (JESUS) and to have my place in the hollow of His hand.
My brothers and sisters when you read the Psalms, you will began to understand the wonderful thoughts in many of the expressions that David uses; i.e. when he speaks about God being our God, our Fortress, our Refuge, our strong Tower, our Strength and our Salvation. David had very wonderful views of how our everlasting God is the hiding place for the believing soul, and how He takes the believer and keeps them in the very hollow of His hand, in the secret of His pavilion, under the shadow of His wings, under His very feathers. It is apparent that this is where David desired and strived to live.
Saints, seeing that we are the children of Pentecost, (the church of the living God) who know Christ through the power that is in His blood, and His Holy Spirit sent down from Heaven. Why is it that we know so little of what it is to walk trembling step by step with the Almighty God as our Keeper? Lawd… help us! But I will not be one of dissenting opinion….because one must go through the process to mature in this walk!
Have you ever thought that in every action of grace afforded you, that you have the whole omnipotence of God engaged to bless you? When many brothers and sisters bestow gifts upon you, you receive them, you rendered thanks, and you and the giver of the gift go separate ways. But the power of God is not that way. God cannot part His own power, and therefore I can experience the power and goodness of God only so far as I am in contact and fellowship with Him; for when I come into contact and fellowship with Him, I come into contact and fellowship with the whole omnipotence of God, and have the omnipotence of God to help me every day. I can come to this conclusion because “Omni” means ALL!
Let’s use as an example a son, who has a very rich father, and as the son is about to commence business the father says: “You can have as much money as you want for your undertaking.” All that the father has is at the disposal of the son. It is the same way with Jesus, our Almighty God. Some of you can hardly receive this; you feel within yourselves such a “little worm” as I. But His omnipotence is needed to keep a little worm! Yes, His omnipotence is needed to keep every little worm that lives in the dust, as well as the universe, and therefore His omnipotence is needed much in keeping your soul and mine from the power of sin.
So, if you want to continue to grow in grace, please strive to continue in prayer, supplication, and in the study of Gods word, as we embrace what is stated in Eph 3:20 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,”
It is His omnipotence you must learn to know and trust, and then you will strive to live as a Saint ought to live. We often fail to study the Bible to know and learn of God, and to understand that a godly life is a life full of God, a life that loves God and waits on Him, trusts Him, and allows Him to bless it! We cannot do the will of God except by the power of God. God gave us the first experience of His power (when he saved us and filled us with the Holy Spirit) to prepare us to long for more, and to come claim and proclaim all that He can do. JESUS please help us to trust YOU every day! GOLDEN NUGGET!
In my conclusion of this Golden Nugget I must touch on why we have to be consistent! Saints sometimes say: “For a week or a month God has kept me wonderfully: I have lived in the light of His countenance, and I cannot say what joy I have not had in fellowship with Him. He has blessed me in my work for others. He has given me souls, and at times I felt as if I was carried toward heaven with the wings of an eagle…..But it did not continue. It was too good to last ” And some say: “It was necessary that I should fall to keep me humble.” And others say: “I know it was my own fault; but somehow you cannot always live in elevated heights in Christ Jesus.”
My brothers and sisters can there be any reason why the keeping power of God should not be continuous and unbroken? Just think. All life is in unbroken continuity. If my life were stopped for half an hour I would be dead, and my natural life gone. Life is a continuous thing, and the life of God is the life of His Church, and the life of God is His almighty power working in us.
Jesus comes to us as the Almighty One, and without any condition He offers to be our Keeper, and His keeping means that day by day, moment by moment, He is going to keep us.
Will our God, in His tenderhearted love toward us, not keep us every moment when He has already promised to do so? Wow! Once we truly embrace this thought, we will remain cognizant that our entire faith walk has been designed by God’s doing … for it states in Php 2:13 “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure”
My God’s keeping is to be continuous. Every morning God will meet us as we wake. It is not a question: If I forgot to wake in the morning with the thought of Him, what will come of it? If you trust you’re waking to God, God will meet you in the morning as you wake with His divine sunshine and love, and He will give you the consciousness that I have to allow God to take charge throughout the day to exemplify His almighty power! If we establish this premise in our thinking, God will continue to meet us every day; but also know that in the practice of fellowship there sometimes comes failure in us and not of God. If you maintain the position and say: “Lord, I am going to expect you to do your utmost to help me, and I am going to trust you day by day to keep me absolutely in the hollow of your hand.” I guarantee your faith will grow stronger and stronger each day, and you will know and experience that you are being “Kept by the Power of God through Faith.” Have a “Jesus Day.”
